Secure, new licenses coming to NM

The New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division will begin issuing new drivers licenses to drivers starting this week in Santa Fe.  The process will roll out in offices around the state by mid-June.

  • I find it odd that the federal & state government recognize the need for a more secure, tamper-proof identification & now have a plan to issue such drivers license and I'D cards but no plan to ensure that the requisite source documents are not secure nor is there a plan to make those source documents secure.
  • Ditto oyegithamu, and one wonders, why it is that the delivery mechanism of choice would be so relatively insecure: the "mail".
  • New cards will be hacked within a month, and ALL the "secret" information hidden in the card will be made public within 6 months. New anti-counterfitting features rendered "useless", millions of taxpayer dollars down the tube. Yay bureaucracy!
