  • Reichbach, come on dude, you mention Wiviott who isn't even running anymore, you mention the city councilors, yet failed to mention Darren White a current candidate for the US House of Representatives was there as were other current elected officials there, State Rep. from the NE Albuquerque District Justine Fox-Young was there. Could you at least try to not make the bias so obvious??? Some of us come here hoping to get "somewhat" balanced reporting, but it looks more and more like Heath is the only one how has any interest in being balanced.
  • I wish someone would have asked him about this:

According to an article in the Local Energy News:

"Critics say Pickens’ energy plan is providing cover for another plan being developed by the oil baron: Pickens is hoping to pump billions of gallons of water from an aquifer beneath the Texas Panhandle and ship it to Dallas and other major cities as drinking water. The power line corridors for his wind project, to be created by seizing private property through eminent domain, would also serve the $1.5 billion water project. Other critics of his plan question the wisdom of switching our driving addiction from oil dependence to natural gas. The production of natural gas in the U.S. has been declining since 1971."
  • to thomasjames:
i find that it helps to ask questions rather than make assumptions. perhaps matt was trying to point out that democrats came out to hear pickens even though he helped finance the swift boat campaign against kerry. at least that's how the excerpt on the nmi homepage reads...
  • thomasjames: I didn't see those people. I would have mentioned them as well, but I happened to pass Wiviott while walking between areas taking pictures. I saw Baca sitting at the back of the room, and was told that Cadigan was there.

I know that I can't be all things for all people, but I was surprised, as shrayas mentioned, that Democrats were backing an ex-Swiftboat financier. Unless you think that's not a story? That Democrats are attending a meeting of someone who financed lies and half-truths about the Democratic candidate in 2004.
  • No thats not much of a story Dems and Republicans attend meetings of people who finance lies and half truths happens all the time. Darren and Justine were standing in front of the stage for over 20 minutes right up until the deal started. Pickens is a profiteer and this really is about his personal gain, just because the dems are buying this scheme doesn't mean anything except that they like this flavor of cool-aid this time. And before all of the dems start touting this as some good thing that they are open minded enough to listen to "picken's plan" maybe some more research is in order.

  • I don't think the Dems are buying anything. They're showing up to listen because there's finally a prominent conservative out there who gets that there's an emergency at hand, even if he doesn't really define it completely and even if his proposed solution is sorely lacking in many respects. A Republican backing wind power, even if for his own gain, is a story. Any awakening on the part of Rs should be applauded by Ds. But that doesn't mean they're now embracing what Pickens is about.
