The New Mexico Independent: Obama leads McCain, Journal poll finds

What's really interesting is, 30 days before the election, 14% of New Mexicans are still undecided. In a Democratic state like this, where our erstwhile governor is heavily promoting Obama (or is he after a new job in Washington again), the Obama lead isn't more than 5 points.

I'm one of those undecideds. Yes I know its hard to understand, but I've lived through many elections and administrations, and watched most of all of the electioneering promises go out the window as soon as the cheering dies down.

What's important to me, and I'm having a problem breaking through all the noise to get a feeling for it, is what kind of people the next president will install in critical cabinet roles like State, Defense, Interior, Treasury, etc. Will these be political hacks who the winner "owes" a favor to, or will they be competent people who can run the administration and be truth tellers as well?

Maybe some clues will come out before Nov. 5

    JoMa,
It's really interesting to read what you're waiting to find out. I don't see any of the pundits or polls addressing this issue.

I'm biased. I think the Obama/Biden ticket has the best chance of leading this country through the economic and other crises. Also, I will say that the people Obama is currently listening to aren't ALL Bush administration folks and few -- if any -- are lobbyists.

This isn't true of McCain where most of his campaign leaders and current advisors are either straight out of the Bush administration, have positive ties with VP Cheney or are documented lobbyists whose jobs included getting close to McCain, having access to him.

    So . . .
