The New Mexico Independent: Michelle Obama in ABQ, Santa Fe on Thursday

This doesn't really make any sense to me- Albuquerque has a gigantic Air Force base and as a result many, many military spouses, both active duty and retired. Santa Fe... not so much. I'm a military brat and I can tell you that the vast, vast majority of military families could never afford to live in Santa Fe unless they had inherited money. I doubt even most flag officers (Generals and Admirals) could afford to live there. Clovis or Alamogordo would have been much more appropriate.

I assume this was set up by the SF-centric Dem party leaders. It really is a shame, how many spouses of enlisted soldiers are going to travel all the way up to SF for this? Michelle will probably end up meeting mostly with relatively wealthy spouses of retired career officers and not really hear much about how the majority of soldiers and their families lives are.

Agreed. Santa Fe is most assuredly blue in November, they need to work on the south. Scratch that. WE need to work on the south.

To danehrig- First of all I would like to respond to your comment regarding your being upset with the visit to Santa Fe by the Mrs. First Lady Michelle Obama. I was very pleased to have been selected to participate in the roundtable discussion with the then Mrs. Obama, and no I am not of wealth but a young proud Military Spouse of a Veteran Iraqi Freedom Soldier who thankfully returned safe from Iraq after serving 18 months of duty. It was a very rewarding and honorable situation of being able to speak from my heart and discuss mine as well as speaking for other military spouses and of course the children (three of whom had to be without their dad for 18 months hoping he would come home safe) of the hardship we all experience while someone from their immediate family being a dad, mom, sibling or any other loved member of a faimly is gone to serve their country. I traveled from Northern New Mexico to participate in this discussion and this was no bother for me as I hoped my experience would somewhat open the door and hope that this new administration of 2009, (not knowing if Obama would be the next President or not) would benefit not only my family but all others alike who experience the military life of being "A Spouse" or "A Brat" for Veterans, future Veterans and their families. By the way I had to borrow $ to make this trip so as for being a wealthy military spouse with money, NAW, just the wealth of LOVE, FAMILY AND PRIDE. Just your ordinary second class family living paycheck to paycheck so,
God Bless You and Your Family and Thank Your Dad or Mom for being of service to our Country.
