Might I add: Long-time liberal Jackson Browne last month sued the McCain campaign for using his classic "Running on Empty" in an anti-Obama ad. (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008...)

Your article also reminded me of the jolt I got while listening to the car radio many, many years ago and the intro to The Pretenders' "My City Was Gone" turned out to be my introduction to conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh. For the twists and turns of the now bizarrely symbiotic relationship between Rush and Pretenders songwriter/PETA advocate Chrissie Hynde check out the musings on Ask MetaFilter (http:\www.ask.metafilter.com/48170/how-did-rush-limbaugh-get-rights-to-my-city-was-gone) or the story in Rolling Stone (http://www.rollingstone.com/news/story/5923659/...).

As one of the MetaFilter musers points out, it's entirely likely that by letting Limbaugh continue to use it, Hynde's anti-mall, anti-corporate hit from the album "Learning To Crawl" is probably known by more people at this point as the theme to Rush's "Excellence in Broadcasting" network.
