Group files complaints with IRS over pastors endorsing candidates

Andy Birkey of the Minnesota Independent has a round up of Sunday’s Pulpit Initiative in which a group encouraged pastors to endorse candidates from the pulpit.

  • I have no problem with churches exercising their first amendment, just like any citizen tax payer does. But if they want to talk politics, the law is clear: then you pay taxes. Churches have been flouting this law with impunity for decades. Don't know why they would be tax-free to begin with, but if they are disregarding the law that makes them tax free, they should be willing to pay the price for their decision. You can't – or shouldn't be able to – disobey the law and then say that you shouldn't face the consequences of doing so.
