He was also a constitutional lawyer. That's the record and that's what he should be judged by.

Likewise, John McCain's been in political office something like 26 years and his record speaks for itself... more status quo Republican than maverick if you really look at. He should be judged by that rather than him being a pow because that doesn't really equate to what it takes to run a country.

Both candidates and parties are completely entrenched in corporate interests and I believe that is where the public on both sides of the political spectrum should be evaluating the opponents candidate as well as their own, and the system that allows such rampant collusion.

Re: Excited to be a Republican

riteizrite it just might, I can certainly think might just be an excellent qualification for any leader.....

Re: Excited to be a Republican

So feeding the homeless qualifies one for the highest office in the world?

Re: Excited to be a Republican

A community organizer is a priest or a nun feeding the homeless. A community organizer is someone who starts a neighborhood watch. A community organizer is someone who joins Habitat For Humanity and helps the working poor build their own house. A community organizer starts a campaign to get drunk drivers off the road, like Mothers Against Drunk Driving. A community organizer starts after school programs for kids.

The list of what defines a community organizer is endless. Don't ridicule the people who work so hard to make their communities better places to live!

Re: Excited to be a Republican

Then why did he say that

Re: Excited to be a Republican

"So the GOPer should just take your word about Obama’s voting record….." no one needs to take anyone's word on voting records; they're public and speak for themselves...

Re: Excited to be a Republican

Population of Arkansas: 2,810,872
Population of Alaska: 670,053

Unless Palin has been single-handedly governing grizzlies and trout, I don't really think that the size of Alaska is as important as the tiny handful of people that live there.

Re: Excited to be a Republican

You gotta be pretty stupid to quote stupid people making stupid comments. Mr. Foley is putting out the talking point of Alaska being the biggest state. However, it is 47th in terms of population. Most of the state is federal land so the area argument should be discounted. And as long as we are throwing quotes out:

"Although it is not true that all conservatives are stupid people, it is true that most stupid people are conservative."
John Stuart Mill

Re: Excited to be a Republican

"I laugh when I remember Ross Perot saying that Clinton’s running Arkansas was like “managing a mom-and-pop grocery store, now he wants to be CEO of Wal-Mart.”

I am just wondering if Mr. Foley still laughs about this today? You think Obama really has an interest in your well-being? What about Obama's pastor, his ties to Ayers, Redzeco, etc. Come on please, neither of these parties has anything but fascism in mind. The are both corrupt and beholden to special interests as are both of the candidates fielded by these "parties." Get a clue, voting either Republicon or Democant is vote for giving up more of your liberty. Don't vote for either of these corrupt parties. The sooner people stop choosing the "lesser of two evils" or the "evil of two lessers" which ever the case may be, the sooner, we will be able to have real change in this Country.

Re: Excited to be a Republican

Dan, you're amazed? Why does that not surprise me? Some people are very easily amazed. And amused? Maybe it's just because you're such a funny guy, on and off the court.

You may know that H.L. Mencken wrote that the people of this great country would not be happy until they put a moron in the White House. Well, having accomplished that in 2000 and 2004, perhaps they will now demonstrate their support for equal rights by doing the same with a female moron. I mean, that's alot easier than doing something meaningful like finally passing the ERA. Remember that? No? It was the Equal Right Amendment, which your party killed.

The GOP is now the party of hypocrisy. They advertise one thing, deliver another, and apparently don't even realize it. What do YOU call this? Denial? Salesmanship? Is that how you've increased your insurance commissions so much the last few years?

Sarah Palin may be your taliswoman, and she may get the job done. I mean, I can see it:

She's so spunky and charming and real....that we'll overlook our fundamental disagreement with her on every major issue. We'll vote for her anyway! It will be fun, and Godly, and by gum, American!

Re: Excited to be a Republican

OH....and then there is this from the Wall St. Journal:

"At a rally today, Sen. McCain again asserted that Sen. Obama has requested nearly a billion in earmarks. In fact, the Illinois senator requested $311 million last year, according to the Associated Press, and none this year. In comparison, Gov. Palin has requested $750 million in her two years as governor -- which the AP says is the largest per-capita request in the nation."

And...

The New Republic calls Palin a liar on her claims regarding the bridge to nowhere.."a naked lie"

How are you so proud of these kinds of things?

Re: Excited to be a Republican

Oh soooo excited and so proud of....

From the Washington Post:

"Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin has billed taxpayers for 312 nights spent in her own home during her first 19 months in office, charging a "per diem" allowance intended to cover meals and incidental expenses while traveling on state business.

The governor also has charged the state for travel expenses to take her children on official out-of-town missions. And her husband, Todd, has billed the state for expenses and a daily allowance for trips he makes on official business for his wife. "

Funny what people like you can be proud of.

Re: Excited to be a Republican

It's so funny and ironic how Republicans gleefully overlook thier candidates criminal past (McCain and the Keating Five), thier lobbyists, the fact that, in Palin's case, she left her little town 20 million in debt.

Be happy. You are just a sheep following those who have no interest in your well-being.

Re: Excited to be a Republican

Oh Dan... your righteous indignation at the scrutiny Palin is receiving is amusing. Who told this whopper, "Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly? Because her father is Janet Reno." John McCain said that... in front of an audience. What kind of person would call a political opponents teen daughter ugly, for giggles with his base? This was after his 1986 joke about a woman being raped by an ape and liking it, which was before his "bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb, bomb Iran" joke, which was before his joke about perhaps cigarettes being the best way to kill Iranians.

"I mean, come on, this lady has run a small business, been mayor of a small town and now is governor of the largest state in the union." Sorry but this sounds as desperate as pointing out her proximity to Russia as the embodiment of her foreign policy experience.

As far as "average Americans" go, ask an average American if they're feeling the benefits of the Republicans tax-cuts for the wealthy... perhaps you're definition of average equates to wealthy.

Sorry to break it to you but McCain didn't choose anyone and according to his own advisers he wanted Joe Lieberman... possibly because Lieberman's very good at catching McCain's public gaffes and explaining to him that Iranians aren't training Al Queda and that Pakistan and Iraq do not share a common border.

Dan, if you would get over your fascination with Clinton and the partisan hackery, you might find that there are some very logical criticisms to be aimed at Obama. Focusing on his community organizing is not one of them. In fact most "average Americans", I believe, can relate to a community organizer far more than a career politician who was funded by his rich wife... after dumping his first for political gain.

You may want to look at that fact that Obama has surrounded himself with the hawks of the Clinton administration for his foreign policy advisers, with the knowledge of this information you could say that he is mistakingly heading towards some of the same foreign policy blunders that the Clinton administration made... and then your critique would sound rational and hence, people might give it more weight.
