As a RPH I to often see Dr's hand out a high cost brand meds because they have samples instead a less costly "me too" generic in the same class. As soon as the generic is available the samples stop and the prescribing of the drug plummets.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;p&gt;What really needs to happen is if a company comes out with a "me too" drug with out and real benefit over the existing drugs in that class then they either must offer substantial cost saving to patients or go on a formulary choice program where Dr's write for drug classes rather than specific drugs.&lt;/p&gt;</description><dc:creator xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">roma</dc:creator><pubDate>Thu, 05 Jun 2008 06:36:03 -0000</pubDate></item><item><title>Re: Curbing big pharma</title><link>http://www.newmexicoindependent.com.php5-2.websitetestlink.com/970/curbing-big-pharma#comment-2351975</link><description>&lt;p&gt;Good for the AMSA-NM students.
