Atrisco strikes brackish gold

A company drilling for natural gas on Albuquerque’s West Side has struck another valuable commodity — water.

Although the "discovery" of additional water in the region may come as a relief to some, it is not time that we truly rethink our greed for a non-renewable resource? Despite the fact that I work to improve access to water for many, it seems that we need to revisit the fact that our western lifestyle does not match our western limitations.

In approx Half of the shallow coalbed methane wells drilled in the State, that water that comes with the gas is potable ( good water ).

That good water should be left on top vs the current policy of reinjecting it down disposal wells.
